Case 002 — Authorization Delay and Object Validity Drift

Context

Two AI-enabled purchasing systems operate under different authorization models.

System A is configured to execute purchases automatically within predefined parameters.

System B requires human confirmation before final authorization.

Both systems operate on the same market object under time-sensitive conditions.

Situation

A required item becomes available in limited quantity.

System B identifies the item first and prepares the purchase request, but waits for human confirmation before completion.

System A detects the same item shortly afterward and, because its authorization is already embedded in its operating mode, completes the purchase immediately.

At this stage, both systems are still acting correctly according to their own internal rules.

A short time later, the item is identified as defective and is withdrawn from supply.

At that point, both transactions have already been initiated under conditions that no longer support the original assumptions about the object's validity.

Boundary

Neither system necessarily failed in a technical sense.

Execution remained consistent with each system's authorization structure.

However, the operational legitimacy of the transaction depended on assumptions about object validity, timing, and authorization completion that were no longer stable.

This condition represents an Applicability Boundary.
